How come nobody thought of this before? - Travel & Leisure

It's the kind of holiday you see in the rearview mirror and like even more. The car nuts and trailer kooks who wave at you from the sidewalks of small towns. The red dirt, the shadows, the mountains in Taos. The tiny town theater in Chama, New Mexico - run by a waitress at the Foster Hotel. Waking up inside the cozy trailer one morning and seeing Anasazi Indian ruins sixty feet away in a canyon wall. The Sunday night that all the gas stations were closed. All of it. - Esquire

If eco-tourism offers travelers of conscience the opportunity to spend time and money for the cause of saving the rain forests and for the privilege of a unique experience, American Dream Safari offers its customers anthro-tourism, the chance to experience a radically different culture firsthand; and more importantly, to leave a place better than they found it by spending their money with the locals. - Bluespeak

Referring to his Cadillac as his "classroom", he discusses his love of Memphis - and the music and culture that immortalized the city. Pierson recalls that on his first trip to Graceland he noticed a '55 Caddy in Elvis' car museum, but he quickly explains that his tour is not entirely about the King. Still, most passengers can't help but feel a twinge in their heart when riding in a classic American car past Lauderdale Courts while holding an old photograph of Elvis taken at the very spot Pierson is pointing out. "That's All Right, Mama," playing softly on the tape deck, reminds riders that they are glimpsing the American Dream. - Memphis Magazine

This chauffeured blues-and-blacktop special is kitschy Americana at its nostalgic best. - Mademoiselle

"I'm a road junkie," says Pierson. "For me, being on the road is all about whimsy. If you have to have a reason to go somewhere, I figure it might as well be a whimsical one. I keep the tours as authentic as possible, which means eating meals and listening to music in places most tours would bypass and most tourists would never get to experience. But that's the whole point - to get the real flavor of the region. Like they say, it's not the destination that counts; it's the journey." - World Traveler NWA

Meet the American Dreamer, a soft-spoken cryptographer with the ability to read road maps like prison tattoos. Tad Pierson has a'55 Cadillac, creamy pink, copper-topped, built to roll, featuring leather-and-chrome accents and fuzzy rust colored seats you can lose your ass in. Combine this piece of rolling real estate with it's owner's love of the road, it's people and stories, and what you get is the American Dream Safari, a guided tour that begs a single question: Why read Kerouac when you can live it? There are still plenty of kicks to be had if you know where to look. - Memphis Flyer

It's two o'clock in the morning when I finally arrive back home. My mind, full of what Pierson calls "psychic souvenirs", is on Mississippi. Memphis was great, but the Delta held me truly spellbound: endless stretches of cotton fields broken occasionally by the rusted out remnants of a life not completely gone but, it seems, largely forgotten. Well, maybe it isn't. It's still there - if you know where to look. I can't wait to go back. I might not find Robert Johnson, but I'm sure to discover something just as remarkable. And that's what the American Dream Safari is all about. - Blues Review
